Pathways (Interns, Recent Grads, PMFs)

The Pathways Program was created after President Obama’s December 27, 2010 Executive Order on recruiting and hiring students and recent graduates into the Federal Government. FEMA has a plethora of programs for students from high school through the post-graduate level. These are unique opportunities for current students to gain valuable work experience and explore many exciting careers in the United States Federal Government.

Internship Program

The Internship Program has paid opportunities for current students enrolled in high school through graduate school. Current students must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited high school, college, professional, technical, vocational, or trade school. Please email fema-pathways@fema.dhs.gov for more information.

Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program

The PMF Program is for advanced degree (masters, doctorate, or professional) students about to graduate, or recent graduates who have completed an advanced degree within the previous two years. Please email fema-pmf@fema.dhs.gov for more information.

Recent Graduate Program

The Recent Graduate Program has jobs for recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. Participants receive training and mentoring. The program is one-year. Please email fema-careers@fema.dhs.gov for more information.

Student Volunteer Employment Program

The Student Volunteer Employment Program hires students to work at FEMA as volunteers (unpaid) for valuable experience directly related to their academic field of study. Students may receive educational credit for their internship. Please email fema-pathways@fema.dhs.gov for more information.
